'Kaminey' is a brainy film: Shahid Kapur

Tired of watching Bollywood no-brainers? Better brace up for director Vishal Bharadwaj’s upcoming film Kaminey, starring Shahid Kapur in a double role. Unlike the other Bollywood masala fares, the movie doesn’t spoon-feed everything to its viewers; rather it respects a viewer’s intelligence and expects one to use the brain.

“Normally filmmakers ask viewers to leave their brain at home when they come to see their movies, but here I am advising them to bring their minds along. It is not a run-of-the-mill movie, it actually stands out,” Shahid is quoted as saying by a news agency.

Apparently, Vishal Bharadwaj is unhappy over the film being given an ‘A’ certificate by the Censor Board. Shahid echoes the director’s sentiment.

“It is given 'A' certificate but it is a movie for all age groups... it's not a film that would make you uncomfortable,” said Shahid, adding that he can watch it with his family and that there are no cuss words in the film’s dialogues.

Speaking about the two characters he plays in Kaminey, Shahid said: “I am playing the role of Charlie and Guddu - two brothers - in the movie. They are entirely different characters and do not even match with my real life, therefore it was a challenging task for me to play the role to perfection.”

The movie has Priyanka Chopra playing a Maharastrian girl.

Recently, while promoting the film at an event, Shahid and Priyanka were quizzed by the media over their alleged affair. Priyanka gave a somewhat diplomatic reply while Shahid joked about it.

“If there is something (brewing), I will speak. Otherwise not,” she said while Shahid joked, “I won’t reveal even if there’s something”.

When asked about the much-rumoured spat between Vishal and Shahid, the director too got into a jocular mood.

“I feel as if people just sit and imagine stories. Now, I can’t sue them, because I don’t have the time to. So I simply laugh it off,” Vishal said.
